The Or'in of Tane Mahuta, Book One, the Chronicles of Aden Weaver
Aden Weaver thinks he’s nobody…until he’s attacked by two warriors of the Sasori Empire. Chased beneath the Lost Island, Aden must save himself and his friends from being beheaded. In finding the strength to defeat the Sasori, Aden finds his true destiny is interlocked with a legendary stone, the Or'in of Tane Mahuta.
Two thousand years ago, the god of forests and small creatures, Tane Mahuta, gave the dragonfly shape-shifters a stone of great power. This stone was called the Or’in. Tane granted the dragonfly tribe the Lost Island, their base off-shore from The Land of the Clouds - an island invisible and therefore impenetrable by the rest of the world.
When the O’rin of Tane Mahuta disappeared, the invisibility shield for the island started to fade. The Order of Twenty-four was created. Their mission was to search the world for the Or’in, and restore the Island's invisibility.
Eleven-year-old Aden Weaver is a shape-shifter. He is able to change shape into that of a dragonfly, or a human with wings. Descended from an alien race called the Chisai, his birth-right - that he is the Son of Kal - is hidden from him. However, Aden is motivated by a driving force. He wants to find the praying mantis warriors who killed his parents and avenge their deaths.
Chief Wako, of the Sasori Empire, seeks the Or’in of Tane Mahuta. Prophecy says, The Or’in can only be returned to the Island by the Son of Kal. Chief Wako sends his top Sasori warriors to The Land of the Clouds. Sergeant Rahora and Cho are assigned to kill Aden Weaver.
Aden has grown up in secrecy with his grandparents on the mainland. Aden’s aunt, Henny St. John, is the head of the Lost Island. When Aden requests to start fight training, he's introduced to the Goldstone twins, Stingray and Pums, the Guardians, and the crippled girl, Te Maia Wilde, the Record Keeper, with whom Aden starts training. Family secrets now begin to unravel.
The Sasori warriors arrive. They attack Aden, and try to sever his head. He and his friends escape to the Lost Island. Here, Aden discovers his aunt is his mother. He learns that he is the Son of Kal, and only the Son of Kal can return the Or’in to the Island. His mother has tried to protect him so that he may fulfill a destiny that affects the future of their entire race. Aden and his friends become inducted into the Order of Twenty-four.
Breaking the invisibility barrier, the two Sasori warriors storm the Lost Island. They pursue Aden and his friends through the tunnel system beneath the Island. Aden overcomes his fears. He takes the lead for the first time and saves Te Maia's life, and in one last desperate act, he kills the two Sasori warriors. Chief Wako declares Aden, Enemy Number One of the Sasori Empire. His quest to avenge his parents has begun.
Hidden to hero.
